Personal, Social, Emotional, and Health

This page is under construction as we are undergoing a period of consultation with parents (updated: May 2025)

At Carr Infant School, our Personal, Social, Emotional and Health (PSEH) curriculum begins with the Prime Area of Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This provides the foundations for building strong relationships, developing emotional literacy, and learning to manage behaviour in a safe, supportive environment. As children move into Key Stage 1, this learning progresses into our carefully sequenced PSHE and RSE curriculum, which supports them in understanding themselves, others, and the wider world.

Here is a helpful blog explaining the differences between PSHE and RSE.

Zones of Regulation

At Carr Infant School, The Zones of Regulation is a taught curriculum that helps all children understand and manage their emotions.

Behaviour and emotional responses are viewed through the lens of the Zones, using four simple colour zones to help children identify how they feel and what they need. All pupils are taught emotional vocabulary, self-awareness, and regulation strategies through dedicated lessons. Every class also has access to a Regulation Station—a safe, supportive space where children can use calming tools, breathing techniques, and reflection prompts to return to a “ready to learn” state.

This approach is embedded in our daily practice and supports a whole-school culture of emotional literacy and self-regulation.
