Aims and Values

Our Vision and Values at Carr Infant School

At Carr Infant School, our aim is to create a nurturing environment where every child can achieve and fulfil their potential. We promote and embed our three core values:

  • Confidence
  • Communication
  • Creativity

Confidence

We strive to ensure that all children become self-motivated learners who can work independently on a range of tasks. Through our guidance, children develop pride in their achievements, becoming more resilient and determined to succeed. At Carr Infant School, children are not afraid to take risks or make mistakes—we see this as a vital part of learning. We also ensure that all children are well-prepared for key transitions, whether moving to a new year group or transferring to another school.

Our staff receive high-quality training—both in-house and external—so they can deliver engaging and effective lessons. Staff work collaboratively across year groups and the whole school, with support from the Headteacher and subject leaders, who play a key role in improving teaching practice.

To build confidence beyond the classroom, we offer a wide range of after-school clubs, helping children to explore their interests, strengths, and talents. Our school provides a safe yet challenging environment where everyone is encouraged to be the best they can be.

Communication

We actively support children in developing strong social skills, helping them to express their thoughts and feelings appropriately using both verbal and non-verbal communication. Children learn to recognise and respond to body language and emotions in themselves and others, building respectful friendships and positive relationships.

Our staff know every child as an individual and adapt learning to ensure that all children can access high-quality education. Well-being and calming strategies are explicitly taught to help children regulate their emotions and communicate their needs effectively. We pride ourselves on being an open and approachable school, working closely with families and governors to emphasise the importance of clear communication.

We also encourage strong parental engagement, ensuring that we respect the views of others and respond to queries, whether in person or via social media. Our staff are present outside at the start of each day to welcome families, creating regular opportunities for informal conversations. Additionally, we maintain close links with Carr Junior School and work alongside external agencies to provide support when needed.

Creativity

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children thrive in a stimulating and engaging learning environment that encourages learning through play. We provide a wide range of experiences that allow children to explore their interests, fostering a lifelong love of learning.

Our staff work hard to create engaging learning opportunities for all pupils, ensuring that every child can achieve—regardless of their special educational needs or starting points. Lessons are adaptive and inclusive, with teachers personalising learning when needed to support progress and success.

We are proud of our exciting, relevant, and regularly updated curriculum, which includes outdoor learning opportunities, particularly through Forest School activities. We enhance learning through educational visits, guest speakers, and enrichment experiences, ensuring that children have access to real-world learning that broadens their horizons.

At Carr Infant School, we inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
