Additional Elements
To reinforce the SMSC curriculum, the following activities should be embedded throughout Nursery to Year 2:
- Assemblies – Weekly themes linked to SMSC (e.g., kindness, responsibility, celebrating differences).
- Storytime Choices – Books that support moral, social, and cultural learning.
- Circle Time & PSHE – Discussions on friendship, emotions, and problem-solving.
- Play Leaders & School Council – Encouraging leadership and responsibility.
- Community Links – Visiting local places (e.g., park, shops, fire station, mosque, church) and inviting community members to speak (foodbank, drama groups, local religious groups).
- Celebrating British Values – Through activities such as voting for class decisions and learning about respect and fairness.
